Obituary for Karen Ferguson
Karen R. Ferguson, 73 resident of Headrick, Oklahoma passed away December 12, 2020, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma.
Karen was born on July 29, 1947, in Hollis, Oklahoma to her mother Doris (Taylor ) Whortan and father Ted Whorton. She was born and raised in Hollis and in later years even graduated from High School here. After graduating high school she attended Oklahoma State University and obtained a Bachelors Degree in Business Education.
She lived in Midland, Michigan; Elizabethtown, Kentucky; Pascagoula, Mississippi; Houston, Texas; and Austin, Texas with the father of her children before returning to Oklahoma. She met the love of her life after returning to Oklahoma. She married Stuart Ferguson on June 23, 1990, at the First Baptist Church in Altus, Oklahoma. She was a military spouse for two years while Stuart was stationed at Altus Air Force base. They moved to Madill Oklahoma where they served as house parents at the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children for five years. Upon their retirement Karen and Stuart returned home to southwest Oklahoma. They found their forever home in Headrick, Oklahoma where they spent their remaining years together.
Karen was an employee at Dow Corning, Midland, Michigan Public Schools, Century 21 Real Estate Agency as a real estate broker in Houston, Texas, Military spouse and homemaker, Housemother for Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children. Before moving back to Headrick she was the Director of Prayer Ministry at the First Baptist Church in Madill, Oklahoma. After her return back to Headrick she became a longtime member at the First Baptist Church in Altus, Oklahoma. She is also the former prayer ministry at the First Baptist Church. In recent years she volunteered her time to be part of the polling committee in Headrick at the Community Center. She loved bible reading and bible study, traveling the United States coast to coast with the love of her life, playing piano, cooking for her family, watching college football, listening to music, and taking care of her family.
She is preceded in death by her mother Doris (Taylor ) Whorton and father Ted Whorton
Karen is survived her husband Stuart Ferguson of the home in Headrick, Oklahoma; her son, John Morrow and wife Lisa of Chandler, Arizona; daughter, Maria Alberson and husband Marty of Stratford, Oklahoma; brothers, Bobby Whorton and wife Kenia of Hollis, Oklahoma, Ronnie Whorton and wife Lyne Whorton of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Chase Alberson, Austin Morrow, Logan Morrow, Carter Morrow; cousins, Linda Burns, Dwight Shaffer, Beth Gamble, and Gayla James.
