Obituary for Karen Sue Gregory
Beloved wife, mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, Karen Gregory, 75, went to her forever home on July 9th, 2020.
Karen was born April 20, 1945 in Carthage, MO to Ed and Dorothy Spruce. She was the third of five children. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1963. There she met the love her life, Ron Gregory, and these high school sweet hearts were married August 3, 1963. Their honeymoon was the first time she had ever seen ketchup put on eggs and wondered if she could ever get used to that. Ron was in the air force and their travels began a week after their wedding. They lived many places including Fairfield, CA; Midwest City, OK; Carthage, MO; Joplin, MO; and Altus, OK. When she received her first check, Ron told her to do what she wanted with it but that was all they had for the month, so she went shopping. She bought a red jumper, white blouse, red sweater, red shoes, and a purse to match. At the end of the month they only had a can of corn left that they had to eat for 3 days. Ron handled all of the finances after that. He also found out that she knew nothing about cooking. He told her to only pack what they needed when they moved to CA after the wedding so she made sure to bring 2 plates, 2 cups, 2 glasses, 2 knives, 2 forks, and 2 spoons but she didn't bring any pans or cooking utensils. One time she was making spaghetti for Ron's students and mistakenly used Picante Sauce for the spaghetti sauce which they politely ate anyway.
Her proudest achievement was being a mom to her 5 children, grandmother to 3, and great grandmother to 5. She showed them what it was to live a happy and fulfilled life. She loved spending time with her family as they were the joy of her life. Looking at her photo albums always brought a sweet smile to her face. She was always helping others any way she could. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. She loved taking care of her flowers and always had a beautiful display at her house. She was a Thunder fan that would get a little rowdy watching the games. She definitely liked shopping and spending Ron's money. She was example of strength, grace and kindness for us all.
Karen was welcomed to her heavenly home by her parents, Ed and Dorothy Spruce, brothers Gary Sr and Dave Spruce, sisters Judy Baugh and Cheryl Rantz, and her precious daughter Constance Jean Gregory.
Karen will be greatly missed by her husband of almost 57 years, Ron Gregory, son Ron Jr Gregory and wife Lucy, son Rick Gregory and wife Lisa, daughter Samantha Gregory and adopted daughter Kimmie, and son Roger Gregory. Her grandchildren, Christina Baker and husband William, Adrienne Knight and husband John, and Matthew Gregory. Her precious great grandchildren Logan, Ronen, Jocelyn, Kyler and Delsin. And numerous nephews, nieces, loved ones and friends.
The family will have a private In-Nichement service at the Altus City Cemetery Columbarium on Wednesday July 15, 2020 at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Salvation Army.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
