Obituary for Keith Dodson
Keith Dodson, a longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away on February 8, 2025, at Integris Edmond Hospital following a brief illness. He was eighty-five years old.
Born on October 8, 1939, in Olustee, Oklahoma, to Jesse James and Lulla Mae (Motheral) Dodson, Keith was raised in Altus, where he graduated from Altus High School in 1957.
He continued his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, earning his Doctorate in Pharmacy in 1961.
On August 6, 1960, Keith married the love of his life, Judy Ann Thompson. Their 64-year marriage was a beautiful testament to love, devotion, and unwavering commitment.
Together, they were active and dedicated members of the First Methodist Church of Altus.
Throughout his distinguished career, Keith made a lasting impact in the field of pharmacy. Keith was the recipient of the prestigious bowl of Hygeia award and the SWOSU pharmacy heritage award with Mark and Lisa. He was a partner in Bunker Hill Pharmacy in Altus, United Pharmacy in Mangum, and The Medicine Stop in Kerrville, Texas. His leadership extended beyond the counter, as he served in key roles with the Oklahoma Pharmacists Association, the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy, and Pharmacy Providers of Oklahoma. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored with the Outstanding Pharmacy Alumnus Award from SWOSU in 1981.
Keith was more than just a pharmacist-he was a compassionate caregiver. He had a well-earned reputation for putting people first, never turning away a patient in need. Whether it was Christmas morning or a quiet Sunday, if someone needed medicine, Keith was there to help. His dedication to serving others defined his career and his life.
Beyond his work, Keith had many passions. He loved Studebaker cars, had an insatiable love for reading-especially Westerns, military history, and journals-and was always eager to explore new places to eat. He and Judy traveled the world together, collecting memories and experiences wherever they went. But above all, Keith's greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His happy-go-lucky nature, strong work ethic, and kind heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jessie Lou Austin, his daughter-in-law, Amy and his beloved wife, Judy Dodson.
He is survived by his loving family, who will forever cherish his memory: his daughter, Debbie Cox, and her husband, Robert; His sons, Mark Dodson and his wife, Lisa, and Scott Dodson; His cherished grandchildren: Carly McDavid and her husband, Shawn; Marissa Dodson; Lauren Turner and her husband, Will; Allison Ridley and her husband, Garret; Cooper Dodson; Chloe Shive and her husband, Keegan; and Kendall Dodson His adored great-grandchildren: Sawyer McDavid, Brodie Ridley, Payton McDavid, Blaire Ridley, Isabelle Turner, and Baylor Ridley
Keith's legacy of kindness, service, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit and generosity will never be forgotten.
