Kimi Edwards, 95, Altus, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Altus, Oklahoma.
Kimi was born on August 26, 1930, in Miyagi-Ken, Japan. She was born to Ichigoro and Sato Kishino and attended Aramachi and Tatsutsubashi Primary Schools before later working for the Sendai Telephone Office from 1945-1951.
On November 18, 1966, she married Harry Edwards at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. She became a United States citizen in El Paso, Texas, in 1968, while always remaining deeply connected to her Japanese heritage and family, whom she visited often throughout her life.
Kimi was known for her kindness, generosity, and caring nature, often showing love through her homemade fried rice and thoughtful acts of giving back to others. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed gardening, and took great pride in keeping her home and yard beautiful.
A devoted member of Soka Gakkai International, Kimi valued peace, culture, and education. She will be remembered for her quiet strength, gentle spirit, and the love she shared with those around her.
Kimi was preceded in death by her parents, Ichigoro and Sato Kishino, as well as her beloved brother and sister. Though she had no surviving relatives, she was deeply loved by the American family who embraced her as their own and cared for her throughout the years. The bonds she formed through kindness, loyalty, and love became the family she cherished throughout her life.
Those left to cherish and honor her memory are her dear friends, Deborah Gulbrandsen and family, and John Osborn; and her extended American family. Many thanks to the staff of Magnolia Creek Skilled Nursing and Rehab for their love and care!
