PATTILLO

LaMargaret Jeanette Pattillo, age 98, of Mangum, passed away late Tuesday evening at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, in Lawton.

Mrs. Pattillo was born on November 6, 1910, to Joe Riley and Effie (Griffith) Caddel in Granite, Oklahoma. After graduating from Ozark School, she married Clem Clay Pattillo on November 3, 1929, at the Presbyterian Church in Mangum. She and Clem attended Southwestern State Teachers College where they earned their teaching degrees. Moving back to Greer County, she began teaching school, driving a school bus and became the second female coach, in the State of Oklahoma, to instruct girls" basketball. Over the next thirty years she imparted wisdom to many students for whom she loved and cared. Six of those years were in the Western Heights School District just outside Oklahoma City and more than twenty years were in Greer County School Districts. After retiring from teaching and after the death of her beloved husband, Clem, on June 18, 1974, she became the deputy county treasurer for Greer County under Helen Lively. She later worked at Janie"s Dress Shop until she and Janie finally closed the business when they were ninety-two years old. Jeanette loved being with her family, friends and former students, but she also was an avid fan of her beloved OU Sooners.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Jack Caddel, Jiggs Caddel and Joe Caddel; three sisters, Naomi "Scoots" Parsons, Goldie Matheny and Aline Roach Nelson, she is survived by two daughters, Melanie Jenkinson and husband Barney of Guthrie, Oklahoma and Sonnie Heffel and husband Jerry of Brentwood, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Jenny Slagle and husband Chad of Oklahoma City, Jordan Slater and wife Anna of Oklahoma City, April Bradley and husbnd Kevin of Sarasota, Florida and Andy Heffel of Mangum; three great grandchildren, Mason Slater, Hunter Slater and Ben Heffel of Oklahoma City; three special family members of the Mangum area, Joyce Snow and husband Ed, Jimmy Caddel and wife Kay and George Roach and wife Peggy along with many other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Jeanette Pattillo will be at 11 a.m., Friday, July 31, 2009, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor John Robles officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.

The family will greet friends on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Greer Funeral Home from 6 until 7 p.m.
