Obituary for Larry David Meadows
Larry David Meadows, age 48, Altus Businessman and Civic leader died Friday evening at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday at the Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Richard McIlney. Burial will follow in the Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Meadows was born May 25th, 1943 to John Norman and Lillian Meadows. He was raised on his parent's ranch, which was his Grandparents' homestead, south of Mangum and graduated from Mangum High School in 1961. He attended Oklahoma State University and Central State University and married Tamra Proctor of Oklahoma City on February 19, 1965. In August of 1967, they returned to make Altus their permanent home. Larry had owned and operated his own Real Estate and construction business in Altus since 1969, and served two terms as President of the Altus Board of Realtors. He was an active member of the National and Oklahoma Home Builders Association. Larry served four terms on the Altus City Council for a total of 12 years, several of those as Vice Mayor. He served with four mayors; Hoyt Shadid, Joe Stroud, Leo Houck and Bozzie McMahan. He remained active in local political affairs.
Larry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Altus, Elks Golf and Country Club, Altus Chamber of Commerce, the Committee of 100, Air Force Association, Mangum Alumni Association, and was a member of the Economic Development Corporation. He participated in the development of English Village developing the 6th Addition himself.
Survivors include: his wife, Tamra of the home; two sons, David Meadows and his wife Diana and Doug Meadows and his wife Tammy, all of Altus; a daughter, Leesa Brandly and her husband Jimmy of Stillwater; four grandchildren, Matthew, Nicole, and Brittany Meadows of Altus and Kimberlee Brandly of Stillwater; one brother, Joe Meadows of Edmond, OK; two nephews.
He was preceded in death in 1991 by both of his parents.
