Obituary for Larry Dean Bornholdt
Larry Dean Bornholdt, 62, of Altus, passed away Friday, October 7, 2011, at Plantation Village Nursing Home.
Larry was born April 24, 1949, in Larned, Kansas, to Robert W. and Wilma Maxine (Hair) Bornholdt. He graduated from Titusville High School in Florida in 1967. After graduation, Larry joined the United States Air Force and spent the next twenty-two years serving his country. In 1972, Larry started on the ground floor of the C-5 training program at the Altus Air Force Base. He spent his entire career at Altus Air Force Base as an aircraft maintenance crew chief with the exception of a tour a duty in Thailand in 1975. After retiring from the Air Force, Larry worked at Lockheed in Altus for one year prior to joining the Civil Service at Altus Air Force Base on the A-Team working as a dedicated C-17 aircraft crew chief. Larry was still employed at Altus Air Force Base until his battle with cancer kept him from working. He enjoyed drag racing and all kinds of aircraft, which were hobbies that kept his life interesting.
Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Wila Bornholdt, and a sister, Adrian, Larry is survived by three children, Robert "Robbie" Bornholdt and wife Kristi of Hobbs, New Mexico, Heather Huber of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and Lori Campbell and husband David of Henrietta, Texas; one sister, Elizabeth Preston of Madison, Alabama; four grandchildren, Karli Jean Bornholdt of Hobbs, New Mexico, Reagan Campbell, Brooke Campbell, and Lane Campbell, all of Henrietta, Texas; two nieces, Michelle Cahill, and Denise Swaney; one nephew Jeff Swaney; special friends and co-workers, George Selvidge and Annamarie Mason, both of Altus; special friends, (his Firestone family in Altus,) Tim, Danny, Kay, Pam, and Dene, and other good friends, Mike and Nina Armstrong and Gene Ford, all of Altus.
Larry will lie in state Saturday afternoon until midday Monday before being taken to Brownell Cemetery in Brownell, Kansas, for burial. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 9, from 6:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
