Obituary for Lavon Dale Sheehan
L. Dale Sheehan, 80-year-old Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma resident and formerly of Bakersfield, California, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the St. Francis Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Dale was born in Olustee, Oklahoma on July 21, 1939 to his parents Clarence Luther Sheehan and Kate Irma (Spindle) Sheehan. Dale was raised in Olustee until the family moved to Bakersfield, California where Dale earned his associate's degree. He went on to Cal State where he earned his bachelor's degree and after college, Dale played his guitar in bands around the Bakersfield area. He went back to Cal State and earned his master's degree in family marriage and child psychology and he worked as a child psychologist for several years. On September 6, 1960 Dale married the love of his life Marylyn Joy Jones and they have enjoyed over 59 years of marriage together. Dale had a passion for music and he taught himself how to build and repair wooden instruments and he became a master luthier where he made and repaired guitars and acoustic instruments for several popular musicians including Buck Owens and many more. Dale and Marylyn moved to the Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma area in 2002 and they enjoyed time with family. Dale enjoyed fishing and he would go fishing in the Kern River in California where he caught almost a record Rainbow Trout. He also enjoyed collecting coins but Dales true love and passion was making and repairing guitars and other instruments. Dale loved his family and he will be missed very much.
Preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Kate Sheehan; three brothers, Allen Dean Sheehan; Cloys Luther Sheehan; and Sidney Burl Sheehan; and his sister, Iris Jejuan.
Dale is survived by his wife Marylyn Sheehan of their home; his daughter, Boni Rinnman and her husband Mark W. Rinnman of Ft. Gibson; his son, Kelly Alan Sheehan; his brother, Paul "Dwayne" Sheehan of Bakersfield, California; two grandchildren, Kyle William Rinnman and his wife Nichole of Broken Arrow, Okahoma; and Kaitlan Maxwell of Modesto, California; his great grandson, William Lennon Rinnman of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his best friend of 70 years, Bill Stephens of Tennessee; as well as nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Olustee Cemetery in Olustee, Oklahoma with Pastor Doug Altom officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus.
