Obituary for Leola Harris Beck
Leola Harris Beck was born December 24, 1914 to John Graves Harris and Bessie Lou Seals Harris in Alvarado, Texas. In 1926 they moved from Alvarado to the Eastview Community of Oklahoma.
On September 8, 1934, she married her Sunday School teacher, Elmer Willis Beck at Gould. They were married for fifty-five years. To this union, their daughter, Rayda Jane was born. Elmer preceded her in death on November 3, 1989.
During this time she worked side by side with her husband milking cows, plowing fields and feeding hired hands in her home. She was a member of the Duke First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School, worked in Bible Schools and cared for her mother and mother-in-law. She was baptized in a creek down in the flats near Martha at the age of fifteen. She was a past Worthy Matron and Grand Page of The Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter Jane and husband Donivan Green of Duke, Oklahoma. She was affectionately known as Nana to her two granddaughters, Becky Green Combs and husband Phillip, Michelle Green Shaw and her husband Michael; four great-grandchildren, Michael Taylor Combs, Addison RyLee Combs, Sydney Jane Shaw and Sage Thomas Shaw, all of Duke. She is also survived by one brother, J. L. (Slim) Harris of Amarillo, Texas.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at the Duke First Baptist Church with Rev Keith Gilliam officiating. Interment will follow at Rock Cemetery. Arrangements are with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
