Leon Salmon
Leon Salmon was born July 18, 1926 at Bochita, Oklahoma. He died February 10, 1993 at his home south of Blair. He married Johnnie Atkins April 26, 1947 at Vernon, Texas. He served in the US Navy during World War II and in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a long time resident of Jackson County having resided here over 59 years. He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church, Optimist Club, where he had held various offices and was currently serving as President. He is on the Board of Directors with SOARR, the Southwest Oklahoma Adolescent Rehabilitation Ranch. He owned and operated a service station for 12 years, he was a partner with Vernon West as used car dealer, and had farmed. He also worked for Steffens Milk Company and later Gilt Edge.
Mr. Salmon is survived by his wife Johnnie Salmon of Blair, Oklahoma; son, Mike Salmon and Linda of Altus, Oklahoma; brothers, Bruce Salmon of Hastings, Neb. Milton Salmon of Stratford, Texas; Claude Salmon of California; sisters, Inez Garrison, Hobbs, New Mexico; Dorothy Salmon of Ft. Worth, Texas; Mantha Embrey of California; five grandchildren; Tom Burden, Bob Burden, Dennis Hansford, Michael Salmon and Melissa Salmon; eight grandchildren, Brandi, Kindsay, and T.D. Burden, Toni Burden, Kelli Hansford, Tasha, Tray, and Tylon Hansford.
Mr. Salmon was preceded in death by his mother and father, daughter, Jean Salmon Eiler, in 1985.
Services are scheduled for 2 pm Saturday at the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating. Interment will be in the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
