Obituary for Leslie Owens
Leslie Owens, age 91, passed away September 12, 2004 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
He was born to Joseph and Etta (Garrett) Owens on August 2, 1913 in Gracemont, Oklahoma. Leslie had lived in the Altus community for 48 years.
Leslie married Anna Noble on September 1, 1940 in Mustang, Oklahoma, he worked as a Construction Foreman for Southwestern Bell for 32 years. He served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in India during WWII for 3 years. He was honorably discharged on Nov 17, 1945 in Camp Chaffee, Arkansas.
Leslie and Anna loved to travel the world. They made many trips to Europe and enjoyed going to Alaska and Canada. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Leslie is survived by his wife Anna Owens of the home; two children, Howard Owens and wife Joyce of Edmond, Oklahoma and Sherry Harkins and husband Jim of Buffalo, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Julie Owens, Justin Owens, both of Edmond, Oklahoma and Michael Harkins of Washington D.C. and a host of other relatives and friends.
Leslie is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lee Owens and one sister, Pearl Cline.
Service will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lowell-Tims Chapel. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Tributes can be made at www.lowell-tims.com
