Obituary for Linda Gay Killebrew
Linda Gay Killebrew, 88, Altus, entered into heavenly peace on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the English Village Manor.
Linda was born on May 19, 1938, in Tipton, Oklahoma, the only child of Richard Henry and Lota Ethel (Boyd) Dunlap. She grew up in Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School with the class of 1957. While in school, Linda met Robert Dan Killebrew and the two became inseparable. While in college, they married on the family homeplace in Tipton on September 1, 1957. Soon after, Larry Dan was born on October 7, 1959, and Sharon Gay was born on December 27, 1962. Within a few years Linda went back to college and completed her Elementary Education degree from Cameron University. Both she and Robert taught for the Altus Public Schools. Linda taught 3rd and 4th grades at Roosevelt Elementary for nearly 30 years before retiring.
Besides both Linda and Robert being teachers, they farmed together, built homes together, learned to fly together, served their church and community together, and did a lot of traveling and vacationing together. Linda was Robert's right hand and support their entire 68 years of marriage. They were active in the Thomas Street Church of Christ (now Tamarack Road Church of Christ). They enjoyed having church gatherings, 4th of July gatherings, and family get-togethers in their beautiful homes. They put on youth events, parties, and many other group gatherings, using their homes to bless many others.
Linda enjoyed being outdoors and was diligent to have a beautiful garden with flowers in abundance. She involved her grandchildren in these hobbies of hers. Robert and Linda would attend a variety of events their grandchildren participated in, from band concerts, to swimming meets, to graduations, Robert and Linda were proud grandparents. Linda loved making memories with her family and preserved those memories in photo albums that each grandchild has today.
Linda was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 68 years, Robert Dan Killebrew; her parents, Richard and Lota Dunlap; a grandson, Chris Brown; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thomas and Kay (Barnett) Killebrew; two brothers-in-laws, Jack Killebrew and wife, Leah, Sam Killebrew and wife, Lois; two sisters-in-law, Roberta Killebrew and Jane Vaughn and husband, Ed Jones, and later, Lloyd Vaughn; a niece, Mary Jane Killebrew; and a nephew, Gary Glen Killebrew.
