Obituary for Lois Whittington Dobbs
Lois Whittington Dobbs, 84, of Blair, went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 22, 2008, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.
Lois was born January 7, 1924 to George and Pleasant (Cantwell) Sadler in Grandfield, Oklahoma.
She married Victor Whittington in June of 1942 in Grandfield. To this union, nine children were born.
In the early 1960's, she moved to Altus where she attended Altus Beauty College and obtained her cosmetology license. She later worked as a waitress during the 1960's and 1970's at Ruby's Cafe, Bus Station Cafe, Pikes Cafe and Bunker Hill United Drug.
Lois married Fred Dobbs of Altus in 1976. She then moved to the Friendship area where she enjoyed raising a garden and harvesting and selling vegetables and pecans to the public for many years.
Lois was also an avid musician. She played the guitar and harmonica, loved to sing and was a talented yodeler. She was a very strong woman who inspired all her children to believe in a strong work ethic.
She moved to the Blair area in the early 1990's where she lived with her three sons. When her health began to fail, she was admitted to the English Village Nursing Home in 2002 where she resided until her death. Lois was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus where she taught children's Sunday School classes during the 1960's.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one brother, Sam Sadler, two sisters, Annetta O'Keefe and Faye Hickman, and one grandson, Garrett Whittington. Lois is survived by her nine children, Donald Whittington of Chehalis, Washington, Arlis Whittington of Blair, Ronald Whittington of Snyder, Oklahoma, Jerry Whittington of Blair, Jeanie Steinmetz of Havre, Montana, Janice Oak of Blair, Vicky Shaw, also of Blair, Sharon Lavoie of Great Falls, Montana and Kirby Myers of Memphis, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Sadler of Wichita Falls, Texas and Eddie Sadler of Eastland, Texas; two sisters, Deloris Cooper of Lubbock, Texas and Wanda Hunter of Wichita Falls, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Lowell-Tims Chapel from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
A Graveside Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at Blair Cemetery in Blair, Oklahoma, with Reverend Randy Mitchell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Blair Cemetery Association.
