ADAMS

Lonnie Loy Adams, age 76, of Muskogee, formerly of Olustee, passed away early Tuesday morning, February 3, 2015, at Eastar Hospital, in Muskogee.

Mr. Adams was born May 8, 1938, southwest of Olustee, in Jackson County, Oklahoma. Lonnie was the oldest of three children of Loy and Lillian (Spiva) Adams. He grew up on a farm, working with cattle and horses and planting and harvesting crops. He attended Olustee High School all 12 years and graduated in 1956. As a young man he joined the Olustee First Baptist Church, where he led singing for two years. He was elected song leader of the Harmon-Greer Youth Rally. He went to Southwestern Oklahoma State University for a short time and then got a degree from a railroad telegraphy school in Pubelo, Colorado. Then he went to work as a telegrapher in San Juan Capistrano, California, until he joined the U.S. Air Force. In California he married Roselyn and they had one child, Ladena. Moving back to Oklahoma, he married Mary Jean Beck and they had one son, Jeffrey Wayne Adams. Later he married Lori and to that union was born Toni LeAnn and Lonnie Loy II (Sonny) Adams. Lonnie attended a vocational college and learned automobile body work. Later, as a long-haul truck driver, he traveled all over the United States. His last job was with a paper factory in Muskogee, where he lived for a number of years. He loved baseball and played on an Air Force team. When his children were growing up in Oklahoma City, he umpired youth baseball.

He was preceded in death by his father, Loy, and his grandson, Aaron Prenot. Survivors include his mother, Lillian Spiva Adams of Altus, formerly of Olustee; his wife, Lila, of Muskogee; his children; two brothers, Paul Douglas of California and Keith of Olustee and two step-daughters, Rhonda Bemo and Sherri Garrett.

Graveside services for Lonnie Loy Adams will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, at the Olustee Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
