Obituary for Lou Helen White
Lou Helen (Hallford) White died August 9, 2024, at Treasure Hills Residential in Harlingen, Texas. She was born in Brownwood, Texas to Arla E. and Willie (Couch) Hallford on May 23, 1931. She graduated from Quanah High School in 1948. Following high school, Lou attended what was then West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. She earned her Master's in 1969 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Lou married Mathies Jay White in Quanah, Texas on July 4, 1951, finishing her education while he served his country in Korea. They farmed and worked in Eldorado until his death in 2008 and then she moved to the Lake Texoma area. Lou moved to Raymondville, Texas in 2023.

She taught Vocal Music and English for the Eldorado Public Schools for 37 years. Lou directed the choir and served in other capacities at the Eldorado First Baptist Church, where she was a member until 2009. She was a member of Enos Baptist Church at the time of her death.

Lou was preceded in death by her parents; husband, M.J. White on September 7,2008; two sons, Ronny White on June 19, 2016, and Larry White on July 15, 2017. Also preceding her in death are three sisters, Dorothy Jackson, Billie Hays, and Patsy Williams.

Lou is survived by one son, Garry White and wife, Sonia, Raymondville, TX; three cherished granddaughters, Aubrey Scanlon of Norman, OK, Stormi Shingler and husband, Mike, of Durant, OK, and Danielle Haas of Austin, TX. She is also survived by a great- granddaughter, Sarah Scanlon, of Norman, OK; a great-grandson, M.J. Shingler, of Durant, OK; and many nieces, nephews, former students, and friends.

Special thanks to the care takers of Treasure Hills Residential in Harlingen. Thank you, Liz Paredes, Mari Villarreal, and Julie Garcia. You were very special to Lou. Also special thanks to her nurses from Amedisys Hospice: Art, Erika Marmolejo, and Ally Salinas.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 -10:00 AM on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the Eldorado First Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 AM with Rev. Pete Wylie officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be, Bob White, Hank Hays, Bill White, Terry White, Russ
White, and Mike Shingler. Burial will be in the Eldorado Cemetery under the care of the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.
