Obituary for Louella Marie Higgins Strong
Louella Marie Higgins Strong, age 93, passed on to her heavenly home with Jesus on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Lewisville, TX.
Lou was born on February 17, 1931, in Mangum, OK to Clarence and Gladys Sewell. She was a proud resident of Mangum, OK, the majority of her life and graduated from Mangum High School in 1949. After high school she attended Draughon's Business College in Oklahoma City. On June 24, 1950, Lou and Kenneth Higgins were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Mangum. They were blessed with four children - Robert Lewis, Michael Kenneth, Patsy Lou and Dawn Marie.
Lou was a member of Trinity Baptist Church for most of her life and taught 3rd and 4th grade Sunday School for many years. She was the church clerk for 13 years and enjoyed singing alto in the church choir. She was employed as the dental receptionist for Dr. James MacRobert for 13 years.
Lou's hobbies were making crafts and crocheting, and she was a great cook. After retirement, Lou and Kenneth enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends. They also loved camping in their RV and doing volunteer work in Mangum.
Sadly Kenneth passed away from melanoma on January 4, 2014. Lou moved to Lewisville, TX, in 2015 to be near family. She met Robert Strong at her senior living facility, and they fell in love and were married on February 16, 2019. They were inseparable from that moment on and everyone commented on what a cute couple they were.
Lou's friends and relatives say that she was the most loving, unselfish, generous, sympathetic, caring, helpful person they've ever met. Her children say that she set a flawless Christian example that they always strived to live up to. Up until the end of her life, she always enjoyed playing around and having fun with anyone who was willing as if they were still children. One of her mottos was that you don't have to act your age, just enjoy life! Her favorite words of wisdom to live by (and she did live by) is the famous golden rule: to always treat others as you would want to be treated.
Lou was a precious angel on earth, and now she's living her true angelic life in heaven's paradise with her dear Savior. She has finally been reunited with her countless number of beloved relatives and friends.
Lou was preceded in death by her infant son Robert Higgins, her husband Kenneth Higgins, her parents Clarence and Gladys Sewell, her sister Ramona Black, brothers Jerry and Dewain Sewell, her granddaughter Melanie Curry and great granddaughter McKenna Downey.
Survivors include husband Robert Strong of Lewisville, TX; son Mike Higgins and wife Linda of Edmond, OK; daughter Pat Fraley Thompson and husband Todd of Lewisville, TX; daughter Dawn Boyajian and husband John of Mableton, GA, 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. They will never forget the love she brought to their lives.
