Obituary for Louis Milton Street

Louis Milton Street, age 80, longtime resident of Altus, passed away Friday, September 5, 2008, at the Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Louis was born December 22, 1927 in Norman, Oklahoma, to Cletus B. and Anna Laura (Paxton) Street. He graduated high school in Cordell, Oklahoma and later graduated Pharmacy School in Weatherford, Oklahoma in 1953. As a young man, Louis was a tennis champion in high school and was on the Championship Basketball Team.
Louis served in the United States Army on two different occasions. He returned in November 1954 after serving in Korea and in Camp Pickett, Virginia. He also served on the Presidio in San Francisco as a Pharmacist.
He married Barbara Ophelia Brinkman on March 5, 1954, in the Presidio Chapel in San Francisco. They were happily married for 54 years and six months.
Louis was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Altus where he taught men's Sunday School class for many years. He served as Chairman of the Deacons for two and 1/2 years and was still serving as a Deacon until his death. Louis also served on the Prayer Committee (which he helped pioneer) for twenty-five years. He was a devoted Christian, wonderful partner to his wife, and devoted father to his daughter, Gretchen.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, retired member of the Altus Golf and Country Club, where he was an avid golfer, and a member of the Gideon Organization. He also loved to play dominoes with his friends.
His wife, Ophelia, of the home in Altus; one daughter, Gretchen Street, also of the home in Altus; one sister, Anna Jane Jackson and husband Malcolm of Montague, Michigan, survives Louis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many, many friends, along with many aunts, and uncles of different locales.
