Mac Arthur Davis, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and proud American, passed away peacefully at his home in Warren, Oklahoma, on February 20, 2025, at the age of 82. Surrounded by his loving wife and sons, he left this world as he lived—strong, resilient, and deeply cherished.
Born in Dustin, Oklahoma, to Vernie Marion Davis and Lola Mae Stuckey Davis, Mac moved with his family to Warren at the age of three. From an early age, he shared a special bond with his mother, picking cotton alongside her to save up for a piano they would learn to play together. His father, a man he deeply admired, instilled in him a strong work ethic and unwavering values. A gifted athlete, Mac played baseball for Warren High School and American Legion ball before graduating in 1960. Eager to carve his own path, he moved to New Mexico, where he pursued a variety of business ventures, including owning an insurance agency, co-owning an irrigation engine business, and working in commercial and residential construction.
In 1966, Mac was drafted into the United States Army, leaving behind his successful businesses to serve his country. He began as a helicopter mechanic before training to fly Chinook and Huey helicopters. He completed two tours in Vietnam, was honored with numerous awards for his sacrifice and service, survived multiple crashes, once being shot down, and spending a harrowing night alone in the jungle. After the war, he continued his service as a helicopter operations instructor at Fort Eustis in Virginia. Following his honorable discharge, Mac returned to New Mexico, where he built a thriving residential construction business and bought a lumberyard to reduce costs. Never one to sit still, he also indulged his passion for fast cars, making Corvettes, Chevelles, and El Caminos faster than the law might have preferred.
In 1975, Mac purchased the family farm, a place that became his true passion. He poured his heart into farming wheat and peanuts, raising cattle, and working the land. For him, every day was a challenge to be met with grit and determination.
In 1987, Mac met the love of his life, Nina, and they married that same year. Her two sons, Jeff and Scott, quickly became his own, and he cherished his role as a devoted dad and papa. His family was his greatest joy.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, James, Donald Gene, and Richard Davis. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Nina; his sons, Jeff Smalling and wife Rhonda, and Scott Smalling and wife Jolene; his five grandchildren, Kirstyn, Colton, Riley, Reagan, and Bodie, along with his two newest grandchildren, Jadyn and Kaili; his sisters-in-law, Kay Davis and Karen Davis; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Mac Arthur Davis will be remembered as a man of unwavering dedication, hard work, and love for his family. His legacy will live on in the fields he worked, the lives he touched, and the hearts of all who knew him.
