PARKER

Maggie Leah Parker, age 82, of Mangum, passed away at her home on Tuesday, December 29, 2009.

Mrs. Parker was born on March 6, 1927, in Vinson, Oklahoma to Sam R. and Thelma (Strickland) Roberson. After attending Vinson School and then graduating from Reed in 1945, Maggie worked at Cummins Caf", on the square, in Mangum. Shortly after beginning a courtship at the local skating rink, in Mangum, she and Harold L. (B-Boy) Parker were married on November 23, 1946, in Wellington, Texas. They spent the next sixty-three wonderful years together before her death. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm near the Hester Community. In 1949, the Parkers moved to a farm east of Mangum, but when the 45th National Guard Unit was mobilized, Maggie and their first two children moved to Mangum until Harold returned in 1952. Harold"s job took them to Frederick for a short time, but in 1954, they made their final move to Mangum where they have lived ever since, raising four children in the community.

Maggie and B-Boy became very active with the Mangum Mounties during the late 70"s and 80"s. She served several years as club secretary and sewed many red and white uniforms for riders and horses alike. She spent many hours cooking and serving through the concession stand windows at the Mountie arena, as well as traveling around the area to rodeos, parades, and play days. She was even occasionally known to ride in the parades in full Mountie regalia, although the white hats were especially hard on her hair.

Maggie was a Farmers Union Insurance agent for eighteen years, retiring in 2003. During her time as an agent she traveled to State and National conventions around the country as a delegate with her dear friends Irma Morgan and George Harold and Jo Terry.

Maggie spent many years as an election official, and also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and the Red Hatters League, but the biggest part of her life was spent loving and taking care of her family. Cooking was a special passion for her, and she was always ready to try out a new recipe for B-Boy and the family.

She was a life-long faithful, active member of the Church of Christ.

Preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, John Beaver; two special friends, Colene Myers DeRusha and Jeanne Boyd Bell, she is survived by her husband, Harold, of the home; four children, Amma Lois Beaver of Mangum, Harold Parker, Jr. of Oklahoma City, Sherry Parker of Oklahoma City and Sammy Parker and wife Bonnie of Mangum; five grandchildren, John Beaver, Jr. and wife Charlotte of Edmond, Kris Beaver of Oklahoma City, Sheila Giddens Duren of Springfield, Missouri, Brice Parker and wife Joy of Mangum and Chase Parker of Mangum; seven great grandchildren, Parker Beaver, Jack Beaver, Kayleb Beaver, Trystyn Beaver, Hunter Duren, Garrett Giddens and Mason Parker along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives as well as many friends.

Funeral services for Maggie Parker will be at 10 a.m., Friday, January 1, 2010, as the Mangum Church of Christ with Roger Todd and Todd McRay officiating. Interment will follow at the Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.

The family will greet friends on Thursday at Greer Funeral Home from 4:30 until 6:00 p.m.
