Malcom "Mac" Mollison
Malcom "Mac" Mollison departed this life Sunday evening, October 9, 1995. Mad, born November 20, 1922, was one of six children born to Allen E. and Edna Mollison in Faribault, Minnesota.
Dr. Mollison was married to Dorothy Farris on February 6, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of the home and their three children, Judge C. Suzanne Mollison, Altus; Patty M. Hamlin of Lawton; and Richard Mollison of Houston. Spouses and grandchildren include son-in-law Joe W. Hamlin of Lawton, Jason and Christopher Hamlin; daughter-in-law Cynthia Mollison and Nicholas Mollison; and his mother-in-law bonnie Farris of Oklahoma City.
Upon completion of his Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma City University in 1943, he entered the United States Army Medical Corps and began his medical education at the University of Oklahoma. Following graduation from medical school, Mollison served his internship at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul Minnesota. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1949 in El Paso, Texas, having achieved the rank of captain.
Mollison and his family made Altus, Oklahoma their home on July 4th 1949 where he established his long and distinguished medical practice. Shortly thereafter, he and his former partner, the late Dr. Fred Becker, founder the Altus Medical and Surgical Clinic. Dr. Mollison was licensed to practice medicine in both Oklahoma and Minnesota. His professional certifications included; Charter Fellow of the American Medical Association , and the Oklahoma State Medical Association. He was the recipient of several American Medical Association's Physician's Recognition Awards in Continuing Medical Education.
Dr. Mollison served as a member of the Jackson County Memorial Hospital staff from 1949 until his retirement from private practice in 1988, at which time he was appointed by the Jackson County Commissioners to serve on the hospital governing board. He continued to serve actively in that capacity until his death. Following his retirement from private practice, Mollison continued to serve the community through the Jackson County Health Department as Medical Director.
Upon appointment by the Governor of the state of Oklahoma and confirmation by the State Senate, Mollison served on the governing board of the Physician Manpower Training Commission from 1989 until his death. During the years 1991-1993, he served as its chairman.
As ab alumni of the University of Oklahoma, he was a strong supporter of both education and athletics. He was a founding Member of the OU Associates, The Dean's Circle, College of Medicine Alumni Association, and the College of Medicine's President; Associates. Until his resignation last year, Dr. Mollison sat on the Admissions Committee for the School of Medicine as wall as various scholarship committees including the Coburn Scholarship which he helped implement.
Dr. Mollison was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was a member of its vestry at the time of his death. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.
Family members will receive friends from 7:00-8:00pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, October 10. A private memorial service will be held for the family. Upon restoration from recent fire damage at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, a public memorial service will be held with Father Peter Cominos and the Rt. Reverend Robert Moody, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma officiating.
IN lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the St. Paul's Memorial Fund in the name of Dr. Mollison in care of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, the University of Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, or the charity of the donor's choice.
