Obituary for Margaret Smith
Margaret Gibbons Smith passed away on May 20, 2012. She was born to Lon G. Gibbons and Tommie Dickey Gibbons on September 3, 1920. She had been a lifelong resident of Altus, Oklahoma and will be greatly missed by all the people that were blessed to meet her.

Margaret attended Altus schools and Cameron Altus Junior College and was a member of Alpha Theta sorority.

Margaret married Leon Smith on October 12, 1941 and supported him in establishing the Gate City Dairy Bar on the Altus square.

Margaret was a valuable and active member of the Altus community giving back in many ways. She was active in the First Methodist Church attending as a youth and later teaching pre-school Sunday school and assisting with Vacation Bible School. Margaret was as a member of Circle I Devoted Methodist Women. She was also a charter member and past president of Aldonian Club, Past Regent of Ann Lee Chapter of D.A.R. and was a Girl Scout leader for many years where she taught at their camp. She was secretary of the Altus Chamber of Commerce, the Civic Trust Fund and the United Fund. Professionally, Margaret worked in retail sales at the Sharon Shop and Holsey's Ladies Wear.

One of the characteristics Margaret will be most remembered for was her sense of style and grace and always beautifully and elegantly dressed.

Margaret Gibbons Smith is survived by her daughter, Diane Allgood her husband Ron Allgood of Altus, grandchildren Whitney Allgood of Oklahoma City and John Allgood of Oklahoma City, great-grandchildren Jordan and Jillian Allgood of Oklahoma City, and brother Harold Gibbons and wife Joan of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leon Smith and brothers Gregory and Dick.

Funeral Services for Margaret Smith are scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. First United Methodist Church, Altus, officiated by Rev. David Player. Burial will be in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
