Margie Betty Davis Caswell, age 78, formerly of Altus, died on Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at her home in Oklahoma City.
Betty was born in Duke, Oklahoma on March 13, 1928, to Fred and Alma (Butcher) Davis. She attended Duke High School. She lived in Wichita, Kansas for many years, where she was employed as an expeditor at Cessna Aircraft. In 1969 she moved to Altus Oklahoma to care for her aging parents. While in Altus, she was a long-time employee of Kellwood Company, where she make lasting friendships. She lived in Oklahoma City for ten years. Her favorite recreation was shopping for friends and family and she enjoyed all of the Oklahoma City malls.
For the last year, she lived at Town Village in Oklahoma City, where she enjoyed playing bridge and made many new friends. Despite suffering from rheumatoid arthritis for the last twenty-five years, she remained active with her family and in her community. She retained her great strength, sense of humor, and positive outlook on life, her favorite quote being "Don't sweat the small stuff." She treasured her family, and was always there for her children and grandchildren both in good times and bad. She was their greatest supporter, comforter and friend. Donation in her name may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, or to the Betty Caswell Memorial Scholarship endowed Fund through western Oklahoma State College, Altus, Oklahoma.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Alma Davis; three brothers, Doug Davis, Fred Davis and Allen Davis; three sisters, Mabel Fowler, Pearl Davis and Mary Cole. She is survived by five daughters, Sherry Teigen and husband Roger of Incline Village, Nevada, Linda Alexander of Albuquerque New Mexico, Vera Courtney and husband Joe of Altus, Oklahoma, Charlene Naylor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mary Beth Scott of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one son Charles Caswell and wife of Robyn of Tulsa, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren Jerry Blane George, Ian Alexander, Alyxandra Caswell, Summer Van Pelt Adam Courtney, Samantha Courtney, Heather Gilbert, Jason Naylor, Paul Allen Scott, Caitlin Caswell and Taylor Caswell; one brother, Paul Davis of Duke, Oklahoma; one sister, Fern Hardwick of Napa, California along with many nieces, nephews and other relative and friends.
Funeral services for Betty Caswell will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Player officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family of Betty Caswell will greet friends form 6 until 7 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2007, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
