Obituary for Marilyn Janell Garton
Marilyn Janell Hunt was born on September 17, 1936 to Gilbert and
Ruth Hunt on their farm outside of Dodson, TX. She lived there and
attended school in that community until she graduated in 1954. Marilyn
married Robert McGee Garton on July 31, 1954 in Hollis, OK. She
received her degree in education from Southwestern OK State University.
During their life together they lived in Clarendon, Durant, Arnett, Sentinel,
Lone Wolf, Mangum, and Hollis, where they devoted their lives to the
church and public education.
Marilyn was a high-school teacher, homemaker, seamstress, Girl Scout
leader, Extension Club member, mother, mamaw, and great grandmother.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and she loved the Lord, family,
and gospel singing. She provided a lifetime of loving memories for a family
that cherished and adored her. She had a servant’s heart and delighted in
helping others. She was a model example of the Proverbs 31 wife and
mother.
Marilyn is survived by her three children, Tancie Wilson and husband
Jim of Lone Wolf, OK, daughters, April Rushing and husband Jerry of New
Roads, LA, Amber Easton of Broken Arrow, OK, and Amanda Gentle and
husband Ezra of Los Angeles, CA, sons Judah and Jonah; Kathy Struck
and husband Patrick of Coppell, TX, daughters, Alison Hadley of Coppell,
TX, sons Patrick and Hunter, Abigail Smith of Coppell, TX, sons Everett
and Edwyn, Hannah Lyons and husband Dustin of Plano, TX, daughter
Madison and son Luke, and Hayley Struck of Brooklyn, NY; Robert Garton
and his wife Marilyn of Mangum, OK, daughter Emily Weaver and husband
Preston of Lubbock, TX, daughter Molly Darter and husband Luke of
Lubbock, TX, and son Spencer Garton of Norman, OK; sister-in-law
Elizabeth Hunt and many more family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, son-in-law Donald
Easton, parents Gilbert and Ruth Hunt, brothers Elba Hunt and wife
Jeannette, Howard Hunt and wife Jo, Vance Hunt, Dale Hunt and wife
Virginia, Kenneth Hunt and wife Kay, and sister Erma Lee and husband Frank. Marilyn went to be with her Savior on July 18, 2022.
