Obituary for Marjorie A. McAskill
Marjorie Garnett McAskill was born June 5, 1918 in Altus, Oklahoma. She died January 14, 1993 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of Elmer and Lela Garnett, pioneer Altus residents. After graduating from Altus High School, in 1935, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, mo. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1939 with her degree in Social Work. In 1940 she married Robert McAskill. Marjorie was a member of the AAUW, a past regent of Anne Lee Chapter of the DAR, a past president of the Chapter CM of the PEO sisterhood, and a member of the Clionian Club. She was a member of the First United Medthodist Church and member of the United Methodist Women.
Services are scheduled for 2 pm Saturday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Pate officiating. Interment will be in the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Memorials have been established in Mrs. McAskill's honor to the Altus Public School Foundation and to the First United Methodist Church.
Marjorie is survived by children, Ellen Yates and husband Tom of Altus, Oklahoma; Jean Petersen and husband Wayne of Ft. Worth, Texas; Mary McAskill-Reed and husband, James of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brothers, Hugh Sharpe of Checotah, Oklahoma; Jean Engleman of Clinton, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Kendal Yates Copeland, Courtney Yates Baugher, Douglas Petersen, Jayson Petersen, Katie Petersen, Logan Reed, two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Christopher Copeland.
