Obituary for Mary Cecille Garren
Mary Cecille Garren, 68, of Eldorado, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011, at her home in Eldorado.
Mary was born August 22, 1942, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Cecil Levi and Gertrude (Webb) Brownlow. She attended primary and private schools there. She started her family early and dropped out of school to be a devoted wife and mother, having Owen Lee in 1957 and Theran Damon in 1960 while working at the Houston Astrodome. Along came Anthony Scott in 1962 and at the time, she met and married Troy A. Richards while in Houston. In 1963, they moved to the Eldorado area where Teresa Michelle was born in 1964, followed by Melissa Leigh in 1968, then the baby of the family, Stephanie Marissa Diane in 1976. All children attended the Eldorado Public Schools. Mary eventually earned her GED in 1959. After receiving her GED, Mary attended a business school to enhance her bookkeeping abilities. She put her skills to good use by getting a job at the First State Bank of Eldorado, where she worked for many years. After leaving the bank, Mary worked at the Southwest Manufacturing Company, Eddie Fishers Sporting Goods, and then accepted a position at the Altus Air Force Base. Connections at the base led Mary to a new career as a beauty consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics where she earned Director status.
She married Monte Garren October 22, 2004, in Memphis, Texas. Mary's greatest love was her husband, her six children, her fourteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to her ninth great-grandchild to soon be born. Some of Mary's favorite things to do were on-line shopping with QVC and HSN and watching RFD-TV. Mary had dreams of moving back to the home farm with her husband, Monte, where they would farm the soil and preserve the wildlife.
Preceded in death by her parents and one niece, Mary is survived by her loving husband, Monte Garren, of Eldorado; six children, Owen Richards and wife Sheila of Blair, Oklahoma, Damon Richards and wife Virginia of Oregon, Anthony Richards of Eldorado, Michelle Cardoza and husband Doug of Tulare, California, Melissa Brandon and husband Bobby of Sayre, Oklahoma, and Stephanie Cearley of Dalhart, Texas; one sister, Sue Janet Thomas and husband Bob of Florida; three nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
The family will receive friends at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Eldorado from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2011. Graveside Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the Eldorado Cemetery with Reverend Pete Wylie officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
