Obituary for Mary Helen Sutton
Mary Helen Sutton, age 89, former Jackson County Treasurer passed away in Roseville, California on Thursday, September 15, 2005.
Mary Helen was born in Trenton, Texas on June 14, 1916 to James m. and Ethel (Legg) Abbott. A member of the First Methodist Church of Altus, Mary Helen also enjoyed being a member of the Porcelain Artists of America as well as being very active in the Democratic Party of Jackson County. Mary Helen will be remembered by many for serving as Jackson County Treasurer for thirty-five years, retiring in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Yvonne, and two husbands, Hadley Thomson and T.P. Sutton.
She is survived by one son, James David Thomson and wife Lura of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; two grandsons, David Earl Thomson and wife Gabriela of Waco, Texas and Sean Thomson and wife Dayla of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; one granddaughter, Marianna Shelton and husband Todd of Spring, Texas; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Aletha Branton of Leland, Mississippi, Evelyn Hunt of Pleasanton, California and Bertha Williams and husband R.L. of Beauchene, Louisiana along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Mary Helen Sutton will be held on Monday, September 26, 2005 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel at 2 pm with Doug Altom officiating. Interment will follow at the Eastview Cemetery in Vernon, Texas. There will be a visitation for friends wishing to see Mary Helen's family, on Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 7 until 8:30 pm.
