Obituary for Mary Madalene Thompson
Mary Madalene Spradlin Thompson went home to meet her Lord on November 6, 2005 in Altus, Oklahoma. Madalene was born on September 25, 1912 to James Rhett (Rister) and Catherine Louisa Fellers Spradlin at heir home 1/4 mile east of Corinth Baptist Church in Harmon County, Oklahoma. She married Lester LeRoy Thompson on July 5, 1933 in Hollis, Oklahoma and to this union was born four sons, Donald Gene, Lester LeRoy, Leslie Dwayne and Buddy James.
Madalene was saved and baptized into Corinth Baptist Church at age 14 continuing her active membership there until February of 1976, when she and Lester built their home in Eldorado and they joined the First Baptist Church. During her years of dedicated church work, she served as a Sunday School teacher and Training Union Leader and played the piano for Corinth Baptist Church for a few years. She served as secretary for Vacation Bible School at the First Baptist Church and was an active and faithful member of the Ladies Sunday School Class while a member of both churches.
Madalene was member of the Lincoln Extension Club for 56 years, serving as president and secretary for several years. She graduated as Salutatorian from Lincoln High School, west of Eldorado, in 1930, and after marring her long friend, helped him with farming while being a devoted wife, homemaker and mother.
She is survived by sons Dwayne Thompson and wife Shirley of Lewisville, Texas, Buddy Thompson and wife Dianna of Eldorado, Oklahoma; grandchildren; Eric Thompson, Lynn Thompson-Tuell, Brian Thompson and wife Monica, Pamela Houston and husband Jerry, and Mark Thompson and wife Alisha, Seth Thompson and Leslie Thompson; Seven "adored" great grandchildren; Kale, Bray, Randi, Ty, Taylor, Rylee, and Trae. Sisters Bonnie White of Altus, and Olene King of Grandfield and brother Wayne Spradlin and wife Mae of Pueblo, Colorado also survive her.
Madalene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, two sons (Donald and LeRoy in 1966), brothers, Aubrey, Leslie, Carter, J.R. Jr. and E.J.
Funeral services for Mary Madalene Spradlin Thompson will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 2:00 pm. at the Eldorado First Baptist Church woth Rev, Pete Wylie officiating. Interment will be at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Eldorado.
