Obituary for Mary Ruth Busby

Mary Ruth Stayton Busby, a longtime Altus, Oklahoma resident passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at the age of eighty-three, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 23, 1941, in Elk City, Oklahoma. Mary was the only child of Cortez Samuel Stayton and Anna Belle (Willard) Stayton. She and her parents shared a close bond. Mary's early childhood was spent in the Sentinel, Oklahoma area, where she developed a love for animals. Her most favorite being chickens, cows, and dogs. Around the age of eight, Mary and her parents moved to Altus, where they attended many local churches. It was at the Salvation Army Church in Altus that she would meet Jessie Busby, the love of her life. They married and were blessed with seven children, with Mary dedicating herself wholeheartedly to her family as a devoted wife and mother. Thanksgiving was always her favorite holiday to enjoy with her children and grandchildren she loved to visit but most importantly she listened and gave the best advice she could offer. Mary also loved watching television, going on walks to the park to watch her grandchildren play. A true storyteller, Mary, was known for her lively conversations always sharing a tale or reminisce about the past. From her childhood years to the days of raising her own family. Her vibrant personality, infectious laughter and a deep love for the Lord, family, and friends will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. Mary's legacy of love, kindness and joy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. The family knows Mary would love to give a special granddaughter Nancy Busby a most heartfelt thank you for being there, always taking her to appointments and always looking after her. It is greatly appreciated.
Mary Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Christopher; daughter Donna Busby, and great-grandchildren, Taylor Hitchcock, Dakota Rhine and her loving husband who passed away July 2024, Jessie Busby.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Doxsee, Paula Rapp and husband Paul, Lisa Milkowski and husband Mike, and Marsha Busby; son, Allen Busby and wife Chrissy; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
The busby family will receive friends Monday, January 13, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.
