Obituary for Mathies Jay White
Mathies Jay White, lifetime resident of the Eldorado community, died in his home Sunday, September 7, 2008, after a long illness. He was born west of Eldorado, April 3, 1926, the fourth child of L.A. (Jack) and Helen (Owens) White on the family farm that he still owned at the time of his death. He graduated from Lincoln High School near Eldorado in 1944 and became engaged in farming at that time.
He married Lou Helen Hallford, July 4, 1951 in Quanah, Texas. He was serving in the U.S. Army and left immediately for Korea where he served with the 2nd Infantry Division as an artillery gunner while his wife finished college. He was also gin operator for the Farmers' Co-op for many years.
He was saved and joined the Corinth Baptist Church at the age of 17. He was baptized at the "Old Dam" on Sandy Creek which runs through his farm. He became a member of the Eldorado First Baptist Church in 1953. His entire life was devoted to his home and work near Eldorado and his greatest joy was driving his tractor and taking care of his cattle and being home with his family, especially his wife, Lou Helen, who survives him.
His sons were the joy of his heart. While growing up they worked with him and shared his interests. He taught them to work and demanded the highest standards of their labors. The surving sons are Garry and his wife Sonia of Raymondville, Texas; Ronny and his wife Carolyn of Madill, Oklahoma; and, Larry of Arroyo City, Texas. Surviving granddaughters are Aubrey and her husband Mike of Norman, Oklahoma; Stormi, who was of the home until her recent move to San Angelo; and Danielle; and one great-granddaughter Sarah of Norman.
He is also survived by one brother, Kenneth White and his wife Jane of Prague; and one special sister-in-law, Bonnie White of Altus and her son Terry of Eldorado; wife and son of his brother Leonard who preceded him. He was also preceded in death by his parents, another brother, Franklin, and a sister, Helen Alice VanDeren, and a daughter-in-law, Michele. Other survivors are beloved nieces and nephews.
