Mattie Lou Fite, age 94, of Willow, passed away early Thursday morning, December 17, 2009, at Grace Living Center in Mangum.
Mrs. Fite was born on November 11, 1915, in Adamsville, Tennessee to Edd and Daisy (Gilchrist) Vinson. Moving to Greer County at the age of two, Mattie Lou attended Willow School. On December 30, 1933, she married the love of her life, Ernest Edgar Fite, and they were married sixty-seven wonderful years before his death on March 9, 2001. After moving to the farm at Willow in 1937, she worked with Edgar, farming together for many years. Mattie Lou later worked in the Mangum School Cafeteria, drove a school bus and was a bookkeeper for the gin. Cooking and doing anything for her family were the things she enjoyed doing in her spare time. She was a life long member of the Willow Methodist Church and active in the UMW.
Preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; three sisters; and one great grandson, she is survived by two sons, Vinson Fite and wife Lenora of Willow and Louis Fite and wife Pat of Mangum; five grandchildren, Renee Roberts and husband Richard of Granite, Steven Fite and wife Holly of Willow, Stacy Fite and wife Lori of Willow, David Fite and wife Candy of Mangum and Megan O"Briant and husband Rhett of Yukon; fourteen great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Mattie Lou Fite will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Willow with Rev. Elbert Shumaker officiating. Interment will follow at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Friday, December 18, 2009, from 6 until 7 p.m.
