Lavon McMahan, age 74, former Olustee resident went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, September 1, 2007 in Boulder Colorado. She was born June 10, 1933, in Tipton, Oklahoma to Alton Hollis and Lillie (Plew) Hollis.
Being a mother to three wonderful sons; Sam, Mike, and Danny Mains her life was continuously filled with love, laughter and special memories that the four of them shared together.
On May 11, 1970 in wheeler, Texas Lavon and J.R. McMahan were united in marriage. He preceded her in death January 26, 1995.
Lavon worked for the First State Bank in Eldorado; and owned and operated Southwest Loans in Olustee. She worked for the Olustee Cooperative Association for over 18 years serving as the office manager and later promoted to the position of general manager. She owned and operated a commercial hop operation; and also worked as a credit manager for Zales Jewelry.
Lavon a longtime member of the Southwest Oklahoma Chapter American Red Cross Board. She served as the mayor for the Town of Olustee for 14 years, served on the board of the Oklahoma Municipal Airport Authority, Oklahoma Agriculture Cooperative Council. Lavon was an Oklahoma Honorary 4-H member for many years where she enjoyed helping many 4-H members of Southwest Oklahoma. Lavon spent many hours helping children in the Olustee School System. She was involved with The Moms In Touch, and a member of the First Baptist Church, Olustee, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her children; Sam Mains and wife Pam of Longmont, Colorado, Mike Mains and wife Carla of Tulsa, Oklahoma Carl Ann Mains Ward and husband Bobby of Tipton,, Oklahoma; four brothers, Alton and Sharon Hollis, Robert and Karen Hollis, Melvin and Jean Hollis, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Eddie and Alma Hollis of Midland-Odessa, Texas. Lavon is also survived by her mother-in-law Marion Mains of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; seventeen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and many, many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son Danny Mains.
Services for Lavon McMahan is scheduled for Thursday, September 5, 2007at 10:00 am. in the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
Doug Altom officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family of Lavon McMahan will greet friends Wednesday evening September 5, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Hoem.
