Maxine "Baggi" (Calhoun) Young went to be with our Savior on Sunday, September 5, 2010. She was born in Greer County, Oklahoma on November 11, 1920, to James Calvin and Minnie Ola (Bennett) Calhoun. She graduated from Blair High School in 1938. She attended college at SWTC in Weatherford, Oklahoma until the beginning of World War II. She married S. Dick Young on March 15, 1942, and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1983. She worked for Southwestern Bell for two years before they moved to West Columbia, South Carolina Air Base. They returned to Oklahoma and lived in Cordell until 1954, then moved to Oklahoma City where her husband worked for Cain's Coffee Company. They then moved to Woodward in 1956. She began her career in banking at Farmer's National Bank in Cordell, training under J. R. Symcox, who would later buy City National Bank in Norman. She worked at the Bank of Woodward until 1971, when her family moved to Norman. She once again went to work for J. R. Symcox at City National Bank until she retired in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Tom W. and Lonie Bennett, her parents, James Calvin and Minnie Ola Calhoun, her husband, Dick, and her brother, James Rodney Calhoun.
She is survived her children, Sam, and wife Twilla, of Tulsa, Debbie Alexander, with whom she lived and was lovingly cared for of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Tim, and wife Jill, of Edmond, and Jeff, and longtime companion Darla Wilhite, of San Diego, California. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ann Calhoun, of Twin Falls, Idaho, ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services for Maxine Young will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Riverside Cemetery in Mangum, Oklahoma, under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
