Obituary for Melba Crawford
Melba Marietta Crawford, age 94, of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2022.

Melba was born in Hollis on March 18, 1928 to her parents, Andy and Maggie Mayhugh, and enjoyed the rich blessing of love, fun and friendship with her four sisters as they were raised on the farm in Hollis. She graduated from Westview High School, where she was honored as valedictorian her senior year. After attending Draughon's Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas, she returned home and married the love of her life, Lee Roy Crawford, on November 8, 1952. Melba worked for the Rural Electric Cooperative before having children and becoming the consummate homemaker and comrade to Lee Roy as they raised their children in a wonderful Christian home and engaged in life as a busy farming family during their marriage. Lee Roy and Melba celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary before Lee Roy's passing in 2018, at which time Melba moved to Norman, Oklahoma to be closer to her daughter. Melba's greatest pleasures in life were as a mother and grandmother and spending time with family. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Hollis.

Melba was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Lorene Bartlett, Irvine Castleman and Lavonne Buis. She is survived by her son Craig Crawford and wife Kathe of Altus, Oklahoma; her daughter Carolyn Cummins and husband Jeff of Norman, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Connor Cummins and wife Katee of Norman, Riley Cummins and wife Annabelle of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Colby Crawford and wife Lori of Altus, Claire Van Horn and husband Caleb of Oklahoma City, and Caleb Crawford and wife Kelsey of Midland, Texas; and six great-grandchildren, Chapman, Whittaker, Ellis, Henry, Mason and Blakely. Melba is also survived by her sister Wilda Coomes and husband Norman of Plainfield, Indiana, and her sister-in-law Betty McClendon of Edmond, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a private service to celebrate her life.

Memorial contributions may be made in Melba's name to the Hollis First Baptist Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
