Obituary for Melba Moore
Melba Smith age 75, of Wichita, Kansas, formerly of Altus, passed away in Wichita, May 21, 1982 at the Northeast Nursing Home.
Melba was born March 14, 1907, in Olustee, Oklahoma, to Tom and Martha (Walcott) Moore.
She married Elmo Smith June 3, 1939. Elmo preceded Melba in death in 1967. She was a retired teacher, having taught at the Christian College in Columbia, Missouri, Oklahoma State University, Western State College, Gunnison, Colorado; she taught music for 17 years, teaching in Friendship, Martha, and Olustee schools. Melba was a member of the Olustee Eastern Star, Chapter CM. of P. E. O, Olustee New State Club, Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Anne Lee Chapter D.A. R. She lived in southwest Oklahoma most of her life, moving to Wichita 14 years ago.
Funeral services for Melba Smith are scheduled for Monday, May 24, 1982, at 2 pm in the Methodist Church, Olustee, Oklahoma, officiated by Rev. James saunders, and Kirk Norman. Burial will follow in the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Tims Funeral Home.
Melba is survived by one daughter, Martha Lowell Sheaf, Wichita, Kansas, three grandchildren, Tom, Susan, Amanda; one sister, Mrs. R. D. Myers, Clinton, Oklahoma.
