TOWNSEND
Melton Perry Townsend, Sr., age76, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2014, at his residence, in Lubbock.
Mr. Townsend was born at Friendship, Oklahoma, on March 31, 1938, to Henry Perry and Henrietta (Harvey) Townsend. After graduation from Friendship School, in 1956, Melton moved to Colorado, for a short time, with his brother and sister-in-law, Charley and Ruby Townsend. Moving back to Jackson County, Melton began working for Morrison Wholesale, in Altus, on January 1, 1959. In 1960, he moved to Clinton where he became the territory sales manager over the southwest region of Oklahoma for Morrison. On June 22, 1957, Melton married the love of his life, Linda Seay, and they spent the next fifty-two wonderful years together before her death on February 21, 2010. After spending thirty-five years with Morrison"s Wholesale, Melton retired in 1994, and began his own business, Mel"s Sales and Service, a tire and oil, business that he owned for several years. He later managed a car wash in Clinton, but because of failing health, moved to Lubbock in October of 2013, to be near his son. In his spare time, Melton enjoyed hunting, fishing, noodling, bird watching, playing dominoes and playing forty-two, but most of all he loved being with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Melton Perry Townsend II; four brothers, Joseph Townsend, George Townsend, Russell Townsend and Harvey Townsend, he is survived by two children, Steve Townsend and wife Charlene of Lubbock and Tammy Frizzell and husband Rodney of Newcastle, Oklahoma; one brother, Charley Townsend and wife Vicki of Moore, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Kellie Coats, Tracie Hall, Amanda Flesher, Abby Townsend, Holly Frizzell and Tommy Frizzell; ten great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.
