Obituary for Michael Townsend
Michael Willie Townsend, age 62, of Chandler, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born into a proud Air Force family, Michael's beginnings were global, but his heart found its true home in the red soil of Altus, Oklahoma. Though he traveled the world in his youth, it was Altus that shaped his spirit and remained the anchor of his story. Michael's life was a rich tapestry woven with deep love for his family and a celebration of community. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Chantelle and Jessica, who were the light of his life. His friendship with their mother, Marta, endured beyond their marriage, a testament to his character and the value he placed on family bonds. That love expanded and multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren-Abby, Charles, Remington, Delilah, Kylie, Sophia, Julian, and Isabella. They were his pride and his joy, the legacy of a heart that loved deeply and without reservation. A man of many passions, Michael embraced every moment. He found joy in the thrill of the racetrack, the focused energy of a dog show, the strategic play of a poker hand, and the pure exhilaration of skiing on water and snow. He was also a talented athlete who excelled in tennis and soccer. His soul was fed by music, art, and the great outdoors-a love kindled in his youth with the Boy Scouts and carried throughout his life. He was as comfortable at a lively festival or a family gathering as he was on a quiet motorcycle ride through the open country. He cherished tradition, from the family camaraderie of working the booth at the Mangum Rattlesnake Derby to raising a stein each year at the Oktoberfest celebrations that connected him to his heritage. These were not merely events; they were the threads that bound him to his loved ones and his community. A man of faith, service, and dedication, Michael served as an altar boy in his youth and carried that devotion with him throughout his life. He approached his career as an Economic Development Specialist for the State of Oklahoma with the same pride and commitment he gave to everything, retiring after years of meaningful service to the State of Oklahoma. Predeceased by his beloved parents, William and Francoisen Townsend. Michael's spirit is carried on by his daughters, Chantelle Townsend and Jessica (Dane) Nellis; his brother, Nicolas Jean (Laurin) Townsend; his sister, Michelle (Mark) Masters; and by Marta Townsend Coombes (Greg) and their daughter, Danielle, good friends, Scott Barton, Kent Barton, Robert Anderson and best friend Jeff Webster.
Michael Willie Townsend lived a full and vibrant life. He will be remembered for his infectious laughter, his adventurous spirit, his unwavering loyalty, and the profound love he had for his family. Though he has left our sight, the energy, joy, and love he brought into this world will forever echo in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. May his memory be a blessing and a comfort.
A celebration of Micheal's life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, 20, 2025 at the Centennial Memorial Chapel on the grounds of Altus City Cemetery. Following the memorial service graveside rites will be held where his urn will be laid to rest in the family plot.
