Obituary for Mildred Rowlett
Mildred Rowlett was born May 8, 1920 in Altus. She was the daughter of the late Charles Oscar and Lillie (Rogers) Abernathy. She died October 20, 2003 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She married Vance Lloyd Rowlett October 23, 1945 and he preceded her in death in 1957.
Mildred was a life long resident of Altus and Jackson County. She attended and graduated from Ozark School. She was a long time member of the Altus First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School in the 4 year old department for many years. She was active in the Ozark Home Extention Club where she held the post of secretary for many years and was recognized as the outstanding Secretary for the state of Oklahoma.
Survivors include one son; Donn Rowlett of Altus, one daughter; Barbara and David Blocker, one granddaughter; Melissa Burns, one brother; Charles and Mary Abernathy of Altus, one sister; Velma Abernathy of Altus and sister-in-law Arlene Rowlett of Altus.
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and many friends in the Hospitality Class at the First Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers; Dan Abernathy, G.R. Abernathy, and Roger Abernathy, two sisters; May Gates, and Freda Holloway.
Services for Mildred Rowlett are scheduled for Thursday, October 23, 2003 at 2pm at the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Sonny Tims officiating.
