Mildred Webb, age 93, of Wellington, Texas, formerly of Hollis, passed away early Saturday morning, October 29, 2011, at the Wellington Care Center, in Wellington, Texas
Mrs. Webb was born in Love County, Oklahoma, on September 14, 1918, to James Claude and Lela (Recer) Wilson. A hard worker all of her life, Mildred, quit school to help her family make a living by chopping cotton and pulling bolls. On October 30, 1933, she married Billie Vestal Webb in Marietta, Oklahoma. In the late 1940"s, the family moved to Samnorwood, Texas and then to Ron, Oklahoma in 1960. After three years at Ron, they moved to Hollis where Mildred lived until 2008, when her health began to fail, and she moved to Wellington, Texas to be near her daughter. Mildred had several jobs during her lifetime, but working as a nurse"s aid at the Hollis Hospital was the most favorite of all.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billie, of fifty-seven years, in 1990; one son, Billy Vernon Webb and a son-in-law, Dail Clark. She is survived by eight children, Joyce Clark of Oxnard, California, Jean Ledbetter and husband Truman of Claude, Texas, Jerry Webb and wife Judy of Hollis, Linda Carter and husband Keith of Martha, Sue Baker and husband Tom of Wellington, Texas, Ron Webb and wife Sherrie of Hollis, Sandi Wilhelm of Sayre and Melvin Webb and wife Paula of Azle, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Webb of Wellington, Texas; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-eight great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mildred Webb will be at 2 p.m., Monday, October 31, 2011, at the Hollis First Baptist Church with Pastor Justin Sampler officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
