Obituary for Milldred Marie Bell
Mildred Marie Bell, age 93 of Friendship, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 2nd, 2006 at her home.
Mrs. Bell was born on June 22nd, 1913, in Humphrey to Edward Orb and Margaret Levisa (Garrett) Morris. She attended Humphrey School and later married the love of her life, Robert Glen Bell, on June 27, 1931, in Greer County. She met Glen on the Friendship School playground where he sister, Mabel, taught. Mrs. Bell was employed at Friendship and Navajo Schools for a time, and later worked at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, Altus High School and retired as the cafeteria manager at Southeast Junior High on March 1, 1980. During retirement, she enjoyed traveling to see her family, knitting, crocheting and quilting, but her most cherished times were the ones spent with her family whom she dearly loved. Marie was also honored with Who's Who Among Students in American Junior College for nearly 25 years of Water Aerobics at Western Oklahoma State College. During her entire life, Marie never lived where she could not see her beloved Navajo Mountains. She was also very active in the Friendship Baptist Church where she was the longest attending, active member.
Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Glen in 1970, one daughter, Sharon Pool, in 1997, a granddaughter Cynthia Nathe in 1972 and two great granddaughters, Heather Bryce and Bree Giles in 2006, four sisters, Mabel Minor, Faye Bower, Martha Lewis (Jayne) Smith and Lula May Morris and two brothers, James Raymond Morris and William Floyd Morris.
Survivors include her seven children, Martha Ann Vanderslice and husband Carson of Marlow, Glenna Nathe of Lawton, Janet Billington and husband Grady of Madera, California, Reba Conrad and husband Dale of McKinney, Texas, Judy Gramling of Denton, Texas, Karen Bryce and husband David of Altus and Sonny Bell and wife Elaine of Burkburnett, Texas; twenty grand children, forty-two great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mildred Marie Bell will be at 2 p.m., Monday, November 6, 2006 at the Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Madison Clinton officiating. Internment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
