Obituary for Milton Verdel Vaughan
Milton (Snoots) Verdel Vaughan, age 91, of Hobart and formerly of Blair, passed away late Monday evening, October 13, 2008, at the Elkview General Hospital in Hobart.
Mr. Vaughan was born on April 29, 1917 at Blair, Oklahoma to William Rush and Ida (Wicker) Vaughan. After graduating from Midway High School in 1935, he attended Hemphill Diesel School in California, graduating in 1936. In 1938, he moved to Lubbock, Texas and worked as a mechanic while attending Texas Tech for two years. On September 8, 1940, he married Doris Castles, the love of his life, and they spent the next sixty-eight wonderful years together before his death. In 1942, they moved to Blair where he farmed and worked as a shop foreman for the Lugert-Altus Irrigation District. In 1963, he started farming full time until retiring in January 2001. Snoots was active in the Blair community, having seerved on numerous committee's at the First United Methodist Church. He also served on the Blair School Board, People's State Bank Board, the Co-op Gin Board, the Lugert-Altus Irrigation District Board and the Greer County Soil Conservation Board. He was also a charter member of the SWODA board.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edgar L. Vaughan and Henry A. Vaughan; four sisters, Aileen Joyner, Willie (Bill) Hinton, Elva Whittaker, Bertha Butler and one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Vaughan. Survivors include his wife, Doris Vaughan of the home; three sons, Wendal Vaughan and wife Sue of Stillwater; Randy Vaughan and wife Jenelda of Hobart, Steven Vaughan and wife Connie of Altus; eight grandchildren, Traci Hensley and husband Jeff, Wendi Lane and husband Kevin, Bailey Vaughan, Bryan Vaughan and wife Heidi, Brad Vaughan and wife Tami, Kristi Davidson and husband Sam, Raegan Vaughan and Malorie Vaughan; ten great-grandchildren, Kylan Hensley, Allyn Hensley, Chase Lane, Taylor Lane, Jacob Vaughan, Matthew Vaughan, Eryn Vaughan, Noah Vaughan, Christian Davidson and Sawyer Davidson along with many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral Services for Milton Verdel Vaughan will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 16, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Blair with Rev George Lupton and Pastor Kyle Clark officiating. Interment will follow at the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening from 6 until 7 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
