Modena Leona Pierce, 84, long time resident of Altus died at the Park Lane Manor Nursing Home Wednesday night. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00pm in the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ officiated by Marland Mason assisted by Bill Osborne. Burial will be in the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, 1100 East Tamarack Road.
Pierce was born June 6, 1906 in Haskell County, Texas and was the daughter of Joseph H. and Annie Belle Peebles. She has been a resident of Altus since 1917 moving here from Paducah, Texas and was a member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ.
Survivors include tow sons, Ray W. Southern of Altus; Kenneth E. Southern of Amarillo, Texas; two daughters, Louise Lemaster of Altus, Ella Ruth Thornton of Smyrna, Tennessee; two brothers Wayne Taylor of Fresno, California; James L. Taylor of Jasper, Tennessee; two sisters, Mrsl Lloyd, Smith Allen, Texas; Mrs. C.C. Hanes of Hart, Texas, thirteen grandchildren; seveenteen great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her first husband; Daniel W. Southern; a second husband, B.B. Pierce, two infant sons and a sister, Tina Pebbles.
