Nellie Beatrice Hager was born August 13th 1918, in Willow, Oklahoma to James Cecil and Mellie Kate Boynton Thomas. Beatrice passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009, at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus Oklahoma, at the age of 90.
A graduate of Ocina High School, she married the love of her life, Thomas Earl Hager at the Methodist Church in Delhi Oklahoma on October 19th, 1935. They spent the next seventy wonderful years together until his death on October 19, 2005. After their marriage, they established their home in Mangum where Earl worked for the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. In the early 1940"s, they moved back to the farm, located six miles north of Willow, where she resided until March of 2004. Beatrice was then blessed to be able to live at Tamarack Retirement Center in Altus Oklahoma, where she was cared for by their loving staff.
Beatrice was a full time housewife, a part time farmer, and a substitute teacher. Earl and Beatrice raised cotton and peanuts, cattle, and Christmas Trees.
In her spare time Beatrice loved to quilt, sew, can, and bake where she was a perennial favorite at the Beckham County Fair. Beatrice served in her Ocina Farm Club as President, Vice President, and Secretary and was the hostess of their annual Christmas luncheon. In 2001 she received her 50 year pin from the Director of the State Homemakers Extension Service.
Beatrice was a long time dedicated member of the Willow United Methodist Church. She loved gardening and yard work. She was also and avid fisherman and camper as she and Earl often took their travel trailer to Colorado to trout fish.
Preceded in death by her parents and husband, she is survived by one daughter, Patricia Fite and husband Theo of Willow; one grandson, Thomas Francis Fite and wife Sandy of Aledo, Texas; two great grandsons, Joshua Thomas Fite and Nicholas Francis Fite along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Beatrice Hager will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at the Willow United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Northrip, Rev. Elbert Shumaker and Pastor Boyd Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
Memorials may be made to the Willow Cemetery Fund or the Willow United Methodist Church in memory of Beatrice Hager.
The family will greet friends on Monday, April 6, 2009, 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.
