Obituary for Neomia V. McAskill
Neomia V. McAskill age 88, passed away December 6, 2003 at English Village Manor. She was the daughter of the late Dan and Mary Briscoe. Neomia was born April 20, 1915 at Doan's Texas in the old adobe home that was later restored by the Texas Historical Society. She was five when the family moved to the Hess Community where she attended school. She was proud of her scholastic accomplishments and was a member of the Hess basketball team. After her graduation from Hess High School, she played one year for the Oklahoma Redheads. Neomia was baptized in the North Fork River at an early age.
Neomia married Carr(Sprout( McAskill September 7, 1935 in Altus and he preceded her death in 1977. They made their First home three miles from Ozark, later buying a farm and moving south of Hess where they lived until 1972 when they moved to Altus. She was an active member and Sunday School Teacher at the Hess Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to the First Baptist Church of Altus where she was a member of the Elizabeth Sunday School Class.
Neomia spent 34 years caring for her daughter Mary Beth who was a victim of Polio from age six. She dedicated her life to making Mary's life as full as possible. She never complained and treasured being a nurse to her daughter. Neomia was a Godly, courageous, and wise woman who will be missed by all those who knew her. She loved to study the Bible and share what what she learned with others.
Survivors include two children; June Griffin and husband R.H. of Crowley Texas; Mike McAskill and wife Debbie of Altus; eight grand-children and eleven great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Mary Beth McAskill in 1989, two brothers, Danny and Guy Briscoe, two sisters, Thressia Easley and Nettie Downing.
Funeral services for Neomia McAskill are scheduled for 10 am Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Hess Cemetery.
The family will greet friends, Monday, December 8, 2003 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Hess Cemetery.
