Obituary for Norma Jeanne Stegall
Norma Jeanne Stegall, age 81, longtime resident of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at the Colonial Manor II Nursing Home in Hollis.

Norma Jeanne Stegall was born on August 18, 1940, to Johnnie and Dortha Walkup, in the LaCasa community of Harmon County. She was an only child, but spent lots of time with cousins, especially Donna Walkup Cary.

Norma Jeanne, as she was known by family and friends, spent most of her school years at LaCasa. When her family moved to Hollis during her sophomore year, she began attending Hollis High School where she graduated in 1958. She attended college at Oklahoma State University, and was a lifelong OSU Cowboy fan. She married Fred Cary in 1959, and to this union, her three daughters were born.

Norma worked for the Hollis Public School System for 37 years, in many different capacities. She worked in the Migrant Program, served as Truant officer, and was a secretary in the elementary, middle school, and superintendent's offices. She was also the director of the school lunch program for many years. She was loved and respected by faculty and students alike. She was the dedicatee of the 1994 Tiger yearbook.

She married the love of her life, Donald Stegall, on October 17, 1979. They enjoyed almost three wonderful years together until he died in a farming accident in 1982.

Norma's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She was their number one fan, and logged a million miles in vehicles traveling to assemblies, ball games, stock shows, band concerts, graduations, and weddings. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies.

Norma was a Loyal and True OSU Cowboy fan. She loved being in Stillwater for games, especially Homecoming. In later years, she became a huge Oklahoma City Thunder fan where she rarely missed a game on TV, and even got to attend a few games in person.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and one son-in-law, Steve Royal.

She is survived by her children, Janet Royal of Weatherford, OK, Robin Ward and husband Tommy of Hollis, Sheila Jones and husband Davey of Elgin, OK, and Merrill Ahrens and husband Loren of Altus, OK. Also grandchildren, Nicholas Royal and wife Anne, of Weatherford, OK, Beth Haff and husband Shane of Elgin, OK, Joshua Royal and wife Hanah of Hinton, OK, Sarah Thacker and husband Travis of Hindsville, AR, Drew Ahrens and wife Savanah of Oklahoma City, OK, Sadie Heath and husband Jeremy, of Colorado Springs, CO, Tanner Ahrens of Dallas, TX, Russell Ward and wife Brianna of Pace, FL, and Anna Jones of Elgin, OK. Also 14 great-grandchildren Isaiah, AJ, Conner and Alivia Royal, Allen, Ruth and Celine Haff, Gabriella and Asher Royal, Tate Thacker, Natalie and Micah Heath, Wyatt and Walker Ward, and two more arriving this spring.

She will also be lovingly remembered by numerous other family and friends, including longtime best friend Claudine McGee.
