Obituary for Norma Lou Stewart
Norma Lou Stewart, beloved resident of Weatherford, Oklahoma, formerly of Altus, Oklahoma, peacefully passed away at her home on June 5, 2024, at the age of seventy-one. Born on January 28, 1953, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Richard Marion Stewart and Margie Garrison Birdwell, Norma was raised with love in Snyder, Oklahoma by Margie and Wilburn Birdwell. At the age of four, she began her schooling journey at Paul's Valley State School, later returning to Altus where she became a cherished member of the Altus House in 1989. Transitioning to the Ridgecrest Community Group Home in 2008, she eventually found comfort and care at the Jones Health Group Home from 2012 until her passing.
Norma's radiant personality touched the hearts of all who knew her. Despite being nonverbal, she communicated boundlessly with her infectious smile and expressive eyes. She had a passion for crafting, dancing, and collecting stuffed animals, each one cherished and prayed over nightly. Norma's love extended to everyone she met, genuine warmth and acceptance, making each person feel uniquely valued.
An avid participant in the Special Olympics, Norma's social nature made her a beloved figure wherever she went. Her laughter was a symphony of joy, and her caring nature extended to her fellow residents, whom she treated with maternal affection, ensuring they felt loved and cared for.
Norma was preceded in death by her father, Richard Marion Stewart mother, Margie Garrison Birdwell; Dad, Wilburn Birdwell; brother-in-law, Lewis Bradshaw; and great-nephew, Damion Stewart Bates.
She leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of her siblings, Carolyn Buxton and husband, James, Rick Stewart and wife, Donna, Lynda Jones and husband, Ronnie, Shirley Bradshaw, Larry Birdwell and wife Debbie, Jerry Birdwell, Marquita Ritchareon and husband Char; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, caregivers, and the residents of Jones Group Healthcare Homes, who regarded her as family.
