Opal Nell McAlexander, age 83, passed away late Thursday evening, February 5, 2009, at Grace Living Center in Mangum.
Mrs. McAlexander was born on August 30, 1925, near Erick, Oklahoma to Paul and Mary (Everett) Dollar. She married J. B. McAlexander on January 24, 1949, in Vernon, Texas. They lived in Mangum one year where she was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and then moved to the farm in the Eastview Community in 1950. In November 2007, she moved to Grace Living Center in Mangum. On January 24, 2009, she and J.B. celebrated sixty wonderful years together.
Opal Nell was the proud mother of Karen Sue, Deborah Rae, Michael Jay and Mark Wade, who preceded her in death in 1970, at the age of twelve. She was active in the Greer County Home and Community Education Group for many years, the Greer County Quilters Guild and Trinity Baptist Church. She enjoyed the many special friendships made in supporting J.B."s efforts as he served as a board member for HEC and WFEC.
Preceded in death by her son, Mark, her parents and one brother, Everett Dollar, she is survived by her loving husband, J.B. McAlexander, of the home, her daughters, Karen Wynn and husband Dwayne of Mangum and Debbie Dean and husband Jerry of Hammon; her son, Mike McAlexander and wife Dusty of Willow; her grandchildren, Greg Wynn, Kathie Wynn, Kara Compton and husband Levi, Whitney Snow and husband Chris, Dena Mackey, and Jet McAlexander; two great granddaughters, Lexi McClellan and Allie Snow; two sisters, June Hogg of Granite and Betty Ellis and husband Gary of Oklahoma City; sisters-in-law, Billie Dollar of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Opal Mayfield of DeSoto, Texas, Rosa Lee Pruett and husband Clarence of Reed and Winona McAlexander of Amarillo, Texas, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that include the loving staff and residents of Grace Living Center and the nurses and support personnel of JCMH Hospice who became her extended family.
Funeral services for Opal Nell McAlexander will be at 10 a.m., Monday, February 9, 2009, at the Abundant Life Church with Brother Jeff Dill, Pastor Shawn Laughlin and Rev. Erin Martinez officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
