Obituary for Opal Spradlin
Opal Ivan Spradlin 86 died Monday June 2, 2003 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are June 4, 2003, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel, interment at the Altus City Cemetery.
She was a lifetime resident of Jackson County. She was born October 6, 1916 six miles south of Altus, Oklahoma, to parents Robert and Dora Ledbetter. She married Woodrow Wilson Spradlin, Februray 3, 1934. They made their home in Altus. Together they raised 6 children and were married 60 years. She worked on farms and several restaurants. During WWII she lived in California and was a ship welder. Her hobbies included going to Wilson Center playing dominos and charity work. She enjoyed most cooking for her family and friends. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church \.
She was a very warm and loving person and cared for all. she never knew a stranger and her front door was always open. If you were fortunate enough to have known her and been to her home you knew to come hungry because you were sure to leave with a full stomach. She was loved by all who know her. she will be remembered fondly and greatly ;missed/
She was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow Wilson Spradlin, her parents Robert and Dora Ledbetter 3 brother, FLoyd Ledbetter, Leo Ledbetter, and Leon Ledbetter, 3 sisters, ruby Ledbetter, Hope Soilee and Myrtle Rose, granddaughter Terri Bryer, and greatgranddaughter Leigh Ann Longoria.
Survivors include her children, Bonnie Ford, Terry Spradlin, Jimmie Spradlin and Samdra Shaw all of Altus, Oklahoma; Beverly Darcy of Glen Burbey, Md. and Veda Eiler of Fort, Worth, TX. 24 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren and her best friend, Midnight, her dog.
