Oralia Bera Hickman, a lifelong resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma, at the age of seventy-one.
With hearts full of love and cherished memories, we honor the extraordinary life of a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend-a woman whose strength, warmth, and unwavering love shaped the lives of all who knew her. Born on September 11, 1953, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Juan Salazar and Julia (Vera) Flores, she carried the spirit of her family with pride and grace throughout her remarkable journey.A proud Southside High School graduate, Oralia carried the lessons of her youth into a life filled with love and purpose. On March 8, 1983, she married the love of her life, Paul Gerard Hickman, in Altus, Oklahoma, and together they built a family rooted in devotion, resilience, and endless love.
Oralia was the heart of her home-a fierce matriarch who took no slack but gave everything she had to those she loved. A gifted listener, she had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued. Her fiery spirit and boundless energy were matched only by her deep compassion.
A true homemaker in every sense, she found joy in the simple pleasures-cooking from scratch, staying up late to watch cooking shows, and carefully writing down recipes to recreate later. Crossword puzzles kept her sharp, but nothing brought her more happiness than caring for her family. Whether raising her four children or caring for her beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren and even friend's children, she poured her heart into every moment.
Though she has been reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Paul Gerard Hickman; her parents, Juan Salazar and Julia (Vera) Flores; her aunt Sylvia Vera Green her uncle, John "Big John" Vera, her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched.
She leaves behind a family who will forever honor her memory: her loving children, Maria Anne Pray (Mike), Glenn Paul Hickman, Shannon Marie Hickman (Jeremiah Sieminski), and Daniel Hickman (Josh Devine); her siblings, Juan Salazar (Mary), Yolanda Rivera, Mary Strom (Randy), Lyndia Robles (Rito), Ricky Salazar (Francisca), Jesse Salazar, and Syndia Herra; her adored grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Hamrick, Glenn Paul Hickman Jr., and Alyssa Rayanna Hickman; and her precious great-grandchildren, Sadie Lynn Hamrick, Kason Lane Pelham, Sylas Vance Hickman, Peyton Faye Pelham; her dearest friend of forty-three years Mary Gras and her family, numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Her love was a guiding light, her strength an unshakable foundation, and her memory a blessing that will live on in the hearts of her family forever. Though she may be gone from our sight, her spirit remains in every recipe shared, every story told, and every act of love passed down through generations.
