Obituary for Oscar J. Howard
Funeral services for Oscar J. Howard, age 76, of Altus are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 1998 at the Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery. Rev Boyd Whitehead will officiate.

Mr. Howard passed away December 12th, 1998 in Altus. Mr. Howard was born August 24th, 1922 in Altus to Oscar and Bertha (Matthews) Howard. Mr. Howard attended Altus schools and graduated in 1942. Upon graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he served as a Gunner's Mate. Mr. Howard married Joyce Wilson on April 12, 1947in Electra, Texas. Mr. Howard worked for the City of Altus Fire Department until 1953 when he moved with his wife to Los Alamos, NM where he worked for the fire department. In 1963 they moved to Las Cruces, NM where he worked for Zia Company as a Safety Inspector. In 1966 they moved back to Altus where he worked for Altus Air Force Fire Department until his retirement in 1976 as the Assistant Fire Chief. Mr. Howard was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Lowell Tims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family will be receiving friends on Monday from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include: his wife Joyce Howard of the home in Altus; one son, Joe Michael Howard and his wife Janet of Altus; one grandson, Shane Howard; three step-grandchildren, Tammy Burr, David L. and Joy Holder and Ike Holder; two step-great-grandsons, Jordan Atkinson and David Lee Holder II.
