Obituary for Pansy Tinney

Pansy Castle Tinney was called to her heavenly home on March 13, 2023 at 8:55 A.M., three years to the day of the passing of her husband Roy Tinney. Pansy was born to J. Elmer and Opale Castle on January 20. 1933. She grew up in Mangum and graduated high school in 1951. Following graduation she attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma, for one year. She transferred to Oklahoma University in Norman where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Throughout her time at OU, she continued to date the love of her life, Roy (Buddy) Tinney, whom she met at Falls Creek Baptist Assembly her junior year of high school. Although she was a loyal OU student and fan, her love for Buddy was greater and they were married on June 14, 1953. She supported Buddy when he was drafted to the United States Army and then as he pursued his pro baseball career with the Boston Red Sox. Michael Lee Tinney (spouse Ginger) was born in 1954. Pansy loved spending spring training with Buddy in the Carolinas and taking Mike to his daddy’s ballgames. In 1957 after Buddy was forced to retire from his pro baseball career, he began his teaching and coaching career with time spent in Anadrko and Velma. Teresa Lynn Tinney Bryant (spouse Dave) was born in 1958. Pamela Kay Tinney Simmons (Spouse Reid) was born in 1960. The Tinney family moved back to Mangum in 1963 where Buddy joined Pansy’s father in the Insurance business.

Pansy loved horses and grew up riding with her dad as often as she could. She did not participate in sports due to contracting rheumatic fever as a child. However, she was an avid fan of all sports. It was evident how loyal she was to her Oklahoma Sooners as she bled crimson and cream. She and Buddy just thought they enjoyed their kids sports and activities until they became MeMe and Papa. Grandkids joining the family were, Tyson Bryant, Trinity Simmons, Rachel Tinney Ackerman, Daniel Tinney and their spouses. Roy and Pansy kept their vehicle packed, oil changed, tires rotated and each school colors ready to go. MeMe and Papa will now have the best view from the front row in heaven to watch their great grandkids, Theo, Thomas, Grace and Franklin grow up.

Pansy accepted the Lord as her personal Savior as a young lady and was a devoted Christian daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved Christian music, and her favorite movie was “The Sound of Music.” She watched it any time it was on TV. She was the church organist for many years at the First Baptist Church. She continued to play her organ in their home following her retirement from the church. Pansy had a love for Lindor and Ghiradelli chocolates. Her kids and grandkids enjoyed keeping her supplied. She loved her family unconditionally and was a prayer warrior for them all.

Pansy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson Jonathan Tinney.

Left to honor her memory are her children, their spouses; grandchildren, and their spouses; and her great grandchildren.
